Obituary for Lisabeth "Dixie" Little (Davis)
Lisabeth “Dixie” (Davis) Little, 89, a resident of Quincy Village Retirement Community, Waynesboro, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 27, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital, surrounded by her two daughters and son-in-law. Born June 8, 1932 in Lisbon, MD, she was the daughter of the late Henry Dade and Elsie (Hall) Davis. She was the younger of two sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia L. Larsh (William) of Waynesboro, PA and Lauren D. Appelt of Perry Hall, MD, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Elsie Dade Sartorio. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence C. Little, and two daughters, Deborah A. Ports and Lisabeth C. Cates.
She was a graduate of Lisbon High School. Dixie earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Western Maryland College (McDaniel College) and later a Master’s degree from Towson State College (Towson University). She was employed as a home economics teacher in Baltimore County for 25 years, finishing her career at Perry Hall Senior High School.
While in school she was active in the 4-H Club and was recognized at a national level. At the age of 17, she was named the Maryland state winner of the National 4-H Girls’ Record Program and was awarded an all-expense paid trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago. Dixie later led a 4-H Club for girls in Perry Hall. Dixie was a creative and talented seamstress and homemaker. She enjoyed developing and sharing her many talents with her four daughters, and later her grandchildren, as well as many others. She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, gardening, reading, solving crossword puzzles, knitting and sewing. She brought joy to her children and grandchildren by making clothes for them. She especially enjoyed designing homemade dolls and creating matching outfits for the doll and grandchild. Dixie lost her husband “Skip” while still in her 20s and raised her four girls as a single mother. She loved making matching dresses for her daughters and meticulously planning cross country road trip vacations with them. Dixie was known for her devotion to her family, helping others in need, and her unfailing generosity.
